Roger Carver, a former Director of the Deaf Children's Society of BC, wrote numerous articles and essays on the subject of deafness, deaf culture, and ASL while at DCS.  Mr. Carver is currently Executive Director of Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  His writing has always been thoughtful, useful, and ahead of its time. One such article is "To Be Visual or Not to Be Visual: The Hard of Hearing Child".

Debra Nussbaum, audiologist and Coordinator at the Cochlear Implant Education Center at Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University, wrote an article regarding the importance of sign language for children who have cochlear implants.  The article, entited "Your Child has a Cochlear Implant: Why Include Sign Language?" is a must-read for all parents who are considering an implant for their child or whose child has already had the surgery.

An interesting article was published in the Spring 2010 Exceptional Family magazine, Volume 5, No. 3.  The article is in pdf here.  Well worth reading.  Especially worth thinking about...

Name signs are a special and valued aspect of Deaf culture.  Parents often ask us about name signs for their deaf child.  At DCS, we respect the tradition of having a Deaf person assign a name sign, but name signs should not be given quickly or without consideration of the "rules" for assignment.
