Standing together for Deaf Children's Language Rights
On the final day of DCS operations, leaders from across the province gathered to stand in solidarity for the language rights of Deaf children and families. Together, they proudly held the Deaf Flag—a symbol of commitment to sign language, cultural identity, and the empowerment of Deaf communities.
On this day, the Deaf community was honoured and represented as we collectively affirmed the ongoing advocacy for Deaf children’s right to fully accessible languages: American Sign Language (ASL) and other multicultural sign languages used by families across British Columbia.
This moment reflects a shared dedication across organizations to ensure that Deaf children in BC have full access to sign languages and the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive in supportive, language-rich environments.
