Welcome to
Deaf Children's Society of BC
Deaf Children’s Society of BC respectfully acknowledges that we live and work on the land of
the nation. Signs for Coast Salish region Before Burnaby existed, its lands were home to the ancestors of
several local Central Coast Salish Nations. I acknowledge and thank the first stewards of the land and
commit to doing my best to be a good steward as well. To recognize the land upon which I live, and work
and its original peoples is to acknowledge the truth. Whose stolen land are you on?

Our MissionDeaf Children's Society is dedicated to promoting awareness, understanding, and inclusivity for deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind children, and children of deaf adults (CODA) to ensure that all children acquire the cultural knowledge, identity, opportunity, and power to lead their lives. |
Our VisionWe envision a world where deaf and CODA children thrive, supported by a multilingual-multicultural approach blending ASL and English. Emphasizing parents as crucial language teachers, we empower families to foster their child's linguistic, cognitive, and social development. Our commitment to inclusive, interactive environments and celebrating diversity ensures every child grows into a confident, capable lifelong learner, fully embraced within their families and the wider community, poised to navigate life with resilience and joy. |
Our ValuesOur values center on recognizing parents as the primary language teachers and embracing deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and CODA children with respect and understanding. We advocate for multilingual-multicultural education, using ASL and English to empower families and foster the child's holistic development. By valuing diversity and promoting social learning with peers, we aim to cultivate environments where every child can thrive, build meaningful relationships, and navigate life confidently as an active member of their community. |
"Deaf" is an inclusive term referring to the spectrum of hearing levels (mild, moderate, severe, profound, etc.) and includes those who use hearing amplification (cochlear implants and hearing aids)
