Teresa FlemingAbout Teresa Fleming
Teresa is one of our Co-Directors. She joined DCS in November 2022 as an ASL Specialist and joined the DCS administration team in August 2023. Teresa holds a Master of Educational Psychology in Deaf Studies from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Gallaudet University, the only university exclusively for Deaf students. Teresa's journey is deeply intertwined with the Deaf community. She attended and resided at the Alberta School for the Deaf in Edmonton, Alberta, and was born deaf, along with her older deaf sister. Sign language is not just a skill for her but a way of life. Teresa is a community advocate, change agent, mobilizer, and storyteller. She strongly advocates for early American Sign Language literacy, mentors individuals, and fights for social justice and the rights of Deaf children. |
Janene Seabrook
Janene is one of our Co-Director’s. She came to DCS in January 2023 as a Principal of the Early Learning Program. In August 2023 she joined the DCS admin team. Janene is a Teacher of the Deaf and a Teacher of the Deafblind. She has a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, Deafness Studies from the University of Alberta. Janene began her sign language journey during her undergraduate degree when she got a summer job with a deafblind student and continues that learning journey. Janene has taught deaf and hard of hearing, and deafblind children in mainstream settings, at the BC School for the Deaf and in the Provincial Outreach Program for Students with Deafblindness. Janene is grateful for the opportunity to support and learn from so many amazing deaf children and their families. |
