Registration for 2023 Summer Playgroup is now closed. Thank you for your interest!
Held in July each year, our Summer Playgroup is an extension of our Preschool-Early Learning Program. Deaf and hard of hearing children of preschool age engage in literacy, exploration, art, outdoor learning, drama, and play based activities in a language-rich, signing environment. For children who will be entering the Early Learning/Preschool program in the Fall, the Summer Playgroup is a great way to become familiar and comfortable with the environment, the staff and the other children.
Please read this important information:
The Summer Play program is offered for 4 weeks in July, and you can request the weeks you would like your child to attend. Children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing will be given priority in the registration process. Please note that registration does not mean automatic admission. Our team will review all of the registration applications to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of the children. Please share any support needs that your child has on the questionnaire below.
If your child is awaiting funding support for a 1-1 support person, please let us know in the questionnaire.
Please email your completed registration form to Janene Seabrook at jseabrook@deafchildren.bc.ca.
The program will run Monday to Friday from 9am-2pm. We do offer extended hours from 8-4, for working families and spaces are limited for these before/after school hours. We cannot guarantee space in our before/after school childcare program.
Thanks to the new $10 a Day Childcare BC program, the fee structure for Summer Play is $10 dollars a day.
Children between the ages of 2.5 and 5 may attend the Summer Play program.
The Deaf Children’s Society is a specialized program in a signing environment. We only accept children who are using ASL at home with their family.
Families with CODA's and SODA's, if you are interested in the Summer Play, please sign up under our hearing children option. We will contact you in early June and let you know if we can accommodate your child.
Families from outside of the Lower Mainland, please note that accommodation may be available Monday-Friday free of charge at the PDHSS Victory Hill Residential Program. Please contact FS@gov.bc.ca to make arrangements for your family.
