Welcome to PAH! Preschool At home
DCS has developed this online Preschool At Home program to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing children from 3-5 years of age to continue to develop their language, social, cognitive and academic skills while safely learning from home with their parent or caregiver. DCS recognizes the major impact COVID-19 has had on Deaf children and their families and the overall development of their linguistic, social and cognitive development. With the help of the Emergency Community Services Fund #ECSF, DCS is proud to offer online learning for families across BC so that Deaf and Hard of Hearing children can continue to access learning opportunities from the safety of their own homes.
Lessons include online, live, interactive sessions 2-3 times weekly, dependant on your child's age and language level. All sessions have been developed by our DCS teams including Early Childhood Educators, Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and American Sign Language Instructors. With each live session, you will receive a home program to work through with your child based on the themes, vocabulary and concept development goals for that day and week. These home programs will include ASL and English language development, fine and gross motor skills, social and play skills, and cognitive and academic skill development. Two different sessions are available, depending on your child's age and language level. The 3-4 year old program is designed for children that may have not yet had experience with Preschool, or accessible Preschool in ASL and are a minimum of 2.5-3 years of age. The Kindergarten Readiness Program for children ages 4-5 years old is a program intended to prepare your child for their learning journey starting in Kindergarten September 2021.
Please note, this program requires parent or caregiver participation and is not meant for your 3-5 year old to learn independently online. All sessions require a parent or caregiver to attend with their child and participate in these interactive sessions with the video camera turned on so that students and teachers can all see each other.
Classes are limited to 6 children/family per class.
Your DCS team will set up 1-1 follow up sessions with you to monitor progress, support your learning journey and answer any questions you may have along the way.
All sessions will be run in American Sign Language.
Zoom will be the online platform used to provide this video-conferenced live session. Links and instructions will be sent upon registration. We recommend a computer or laptop be used for these sessions. Ipads can also be used however not all interactive features will be available. Please do not plan on using your cell phone to access these sessions. If you do not have access to technology such as an Ipad or computer, please contact us for support.
Preschool At Home Program cost is $75.00 a month for the 3-4 year old program and $100.00 per month for the Kindergarten Readiness Program for 4-5 year olds. Families with need of financial support, please contact us at office@deafchildren.bc.ca
