LANGUAGE ACQUISITION THROUGH BIMODAL INSTRUCTION
BridgeLab is an opportunity to delve deeper into instruction and learning in two languages, ASL and English. The Bilingual Bicultural approach to teaching and learning with Deaf Children is not a new concept. It has been in practice for many years and the research on its success is well documented. BridgeLAB offers focused intervention time to build knowledge and skill of English language, by connecting with your child’s foundation in American Sign Language. Through lessons, dance, music, story and active play, the level of English access each student is able to develop will be unique to each child. The focus on oral language can be as emergent as ‘awareness of quiet vs loud sounds’, recognition of environmental sounds, or as complex as words and sentences. In addition, English literacy is of utmost importance. This time in your child’s life is important in developing a love for and understanding of print and literacy skills. BridgeLAB is led by our Speech Language Pathologist and supported by our Preschool Early Childhood Educators.
